No More Excuses

Alright, the time has come to get back on track.  I can’t use having company or Thanksgiving as an excuse anymore.  I will only spend a few minutes catching up on reading some blogs and then I will change into my workout clothes.  After taking a break from my routine it is always difficult to get in the right frame of mind to exercise again.
Wish me luck getting back into the swing of it again.

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
I have to admit I have not been doing a good job at running this week.  Finding the time to run has been challenging this week with family flying in for the holiday, preparing for meetings at school ( I had 7 Evaluation Team Meetings and Individual Educational Plans to develop) , and other obligations.  Hopefully, I will get back on track as the weekend approaches.
Take Care and enjoy your Thanksgiving.  I can hardly wait to have my mother’s turkey dressing.  It is the best!

Running Out of Time

Since the last time I posted, I have been keeping very busy.  In fact, I have been struggling to find the time to accomplish everything on my “to do” list and I feel like 24 hours is not enough time in one day.  However, I have managed to find the time to utilize the Tread Mill 4 out of the last 7 days.
My husband shared with me a running schedule that helped him when he first started running.  Yesterday, I pushed my self and felt wonderful after.  In fact, I could hardly wait to attempt the schedule again today.  However, I woke up very stiff and slow moving.  All I could do was walk on the tread mill today.  Maybe tomorrow I will be more successful at following this schedule.
Warm up- 5 minutes of walking –build to a jog
Run for 30 seconds/ Walk for 60 seconds (4 times)
Run for 60 seconds/Walk for 60 seconds (3 times)
Run for 30 seconds/ Walk for 60 seconds (2 times)
Cool down- 5 minutes of walking
Thanks for all the support and kind words.

The treadmill

The treadmill is officially dust free and I have actually used it for two consecutive days.  Although I am far from my first goal of being able to run a mile without stopping, I am encouraged by the fact that I am moving and actually using the treadmill again.
I am so inspired by the participants on the Biggest Loser.  I keep telling myself “if they can do it, so can I.”  Suddenly reality hits and I remember they have Bob and Jillian to kick their butts.  Last night I put the treadmill right in front of the TV so it would feel like Jillian was yelling at me to move it.  Oh,  the things I will do to motivate myself! An Introduction to My Quest to Run

Hello, my name is Colleen Nelson.
To begin with, I have to admit that I am proud to be nearing the end of achieving a goal I set out to accomplish eighteen months ago.  I have two classes left before completing my masters of Technology in Education from Lesley University.  I am currently enrolled in ECOM 6019- Web 2.0 for Education, where creating a blog is one of the requirement.  I thought it would be fun to create a blog to initiate the start of my next personal goal I hope to achieve~ my quest to become a runner.
Two years ago, I watched as my husband started his journey to become a runner.  At the start, it was a journey we planned to embark on together.  However, due to some minor health set backs and my dedication to the masters program I was unable to keep up with the pace of his training.
During his journey, I witnessed him transform into someone who never ran a race to being part of an elite group who have earned the privileged to say they completed a marathon.  As I waited for him at the finish line, I was moved to tears as I felt the joy he experienced form achieving such a feat.
Since that day, we have often talked of someday training together for a marathon (preferably one far away-Dublin would be my dream) However,  in order to start the journey to reach the goal of running together in that magnitude of a race, I will need to learn to run. I will have to take baby steps and will need much encouragement and advice along the way from those who can run and people of a supportive nature.
My first goal in my quest to run will be to run 1 mile without stopping.  To some, this goal may sound small, but for me this will a major achievement.
Please stop by and wish me luck along the way.
